Painful Rejection

Rejection is one of the strongest emotional challenges! Most people face some sort of rejection throughout their lifetime to some degree or another.  Rejection sends us on a mission to seek and destroy our self-esteem. Blaming ourselves and attacking our self-worth only deepens the emotional pain we feel and makes it harder for us to recover emotionally.

Rejection and physical Pain connect pathways in the brain – the brain becomes activated when we experience rejection, in the same manner as when we experience physical pain.

We can relive and re-experience social pain more vividly than we can physical pain – social pain connects with our feeling which makes it much easier for us to remember rejection.

Rejection destabilizes our “Need to Belong” – we feel alone and disconnected after a rejection.

Rejection creates surges of anger and aggression – research shows even mild rejections lead people to take out their aggression on innocent bystanders.

Rejection temporarily lowers our IQ – when we are reeling from a painful rejection, thinking clearly is just not that easy. Rejection does not respond to reason –

ABC’s of Rejection:

Accept the facts

Believe the truth

Change your behavior

If you live in the past and allow the past to define who you are, then you will never grow! We tend to focus on our shortcomings or the limitations of our circumstances rather than looking to God to make a way!
